I was expecting a little bit more from this episode... but this was... kinda decent at best, what happened today in this episode was miles better in the VN, here? It feels kinda butchered, which is why I'm feeling this season might rushing stuff until we get to the meat and bones of the story... if so then it's kinda sad, because a story like Utawarerumono deserves all attention to details.

In any case, this episode proves that Kuon can be relentless and brutal... she's an unexpected villain indeed, but there's so much behind this that explaining it will be diving deep into spoilers, but this is happening for reason... and this is also just the start, because the battle between princesses is far from over, and next episode will be hella epic if adapted properly.

Kuon is a badass.

that scene with the little sister crying was sad, he tried his best to cheer her up. the princess girl pretty much making everyone's life harder by wanting to retake the thrown, it's one thing if ur strong, smart, and a capable leader who can lead armies to go and take what u want, it's a whole other thing to just feel entitled to a position and put everyone's lives in danger when u urself can't do much (i mean she's strong, but it won't help much against a smart enemy especially since she's a kid). heck grow up a bit, and get stronger and smarter, and then go back and take what u think is urs

Ya know, you got to appreciate that they had a goal and they are going full force on it. All subtext and undertones are being shoved aside to beat you over the head with simplicity and obvious keynotes. It makes it easier to condense into a brief anime, and the denser fans will be overjoyed that they can follow it.

In all honesty, this still looks leagues better than what they did with the story in Zan 2. This one is just a different take on the story. I'd say I think it could be much better, but I don't want to give anyone another heart attack.

I was curious how they would do it with the fight with Mikazuki since that was supposed to come later but it was well done. They probably did it to safe on time for more important scenes.

I feel a bit disappointed, the fight with Mikazuchi suppose to be more emotional, in the visual novel game the fight was EPIC and was really emotional. But the anime feels underwhelming. And they even cram in the meeting with the princess in just one episode. Though i understand they can't adapt every conversation and details because the game is very long indeed. So I high recommend anyone to play the game as well, you won't regret it

I agree with playing the game because the VN is that amazing... but it's indeed weird, this season will have 28 episodes, so why not pacing things out a little bit better? Unless they're saving all those future episodes for all the juicy stuff that happens later on in the story.
